Almost any mid-level or high-end laptop will have a built-in webcam. What you should look for is hardware that supports what you do with the machine - for example, if you're a gamer, you'll want both a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad processor and either a good IGP (the GeForce 9400 would be the current best IGP; Intel IGPs suck for anything but video) or dedicated graphics chip (like a GeForce 8600/9600/GT120 or better, or ATI 3800/4600/4700/4800 series chip). In the mid-level price range, you'll be looking at models ranging in price from $700 to $1500. Any model in this range will include a dual-core processor, decent sized hard drive, built-in wireless N, and a battery that will last at least 4 hours per charge. Other things you should look for are Bluetooth and DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort connectivity (so you can connect to a digital monitor or HDTV; DVI and DisplayPort also allow connections to VGA monitors with adapters). Models I could recommend are Dell XPS, Lenovo ThinkPad, HP HDX, and Apple MacBook White or Aluminum.

How do I extend my laptop display to our vizio lcd tv using SVGA cable?

How do I extend my laptop display to our vizio lcd tv using SVGA cable?
We are using an SVGA cable male to male. We connected the cables first to the laptop and tv when it's powered off and then when we turned on the laptop, changed the display properties(step by step) as mentioned here in Y answers. But still our tv just says "Not Supported" even if we changed the input to 'RGB' already and then our laptop screen just goes black. We need to unplug the cable from the laptop again in order to navigate.. What seems to the problem?

Well , you could be using the WRONG Refresh rate or resolution setting on your computer.... Set it to 60 Hz refresh rate and KEEP that setting...then start at any hhhh x 480 resolution setting and move up to hhhh x 720 settings and finally stop at 1920 x 1080. You will note that several settings will not provide a picture. Those are the ones that the TV will not process.... Now, if you still get NO PICTURE at all then replace the signal board, or the cable...

Add a laptop to home internet

How do i add a laptop to my home internet?
I am getting a laptop next week and want to know if i can connect it to my home internet. I have aol wireless broadband, will it cost me any extra to add a laptop? Is it easy to connect, the new laptop will have WIFI.

It wont cost anything extra, but you have to know the code to let it install , if it is set up as a secure network. If it isnt secure, it will just install itself, when you choose the network that is in your home. The code , if it hasnt been changed will be the 13 digit number on the bottom of your wireless transmitter. Your isp may have a limit as to how many computers you can use simultaniously, tho.

All Answers
Answer 1
It's extremely easy. Just turn the laptop on and use whatever network manager you like (Windows Explorer is fine, if you use Windows) to connect to your wifi network and you're done. EDIT: And no, it's not going to cost anything additional. If your ISP tells you that it will, they're just being deceptive. There's no way for them to know that you have a home network anyway, so even if it does violate TOS -- which I seriously doubt -- they won't find out.
2009-05-15 13:00:11

Answer 2
VERY,VERY,VERY simple. No cost. Turn on the wifi(button on laptop)(usually leave it on), search for networks, find your network, type in the password(if you have one) connect! Once you have done your laptop will automaticly connect when the network is in range, with you wifi on of course.

â–º get a wired / wireless NAT Security router â–º the internet plugs into one specific plug on the router â–º your main PC uses a wired port with ethernet cable â–º your Laptop can use either the WiFi or a wired port also â–º The router assigns the IP Addresses to the computers and acts as the internet gateway â–º this way your machines can be simultaneously connected and are hidden behind the router sharing the AOL IP Address

a netbook normally has a lot less rom (so it is slower) and has less memory netbooks are useful if you only surf the web and use microsoft word but they are a lot cheaper
2009-12-14 11:00:01

Answer 3
Alright since the majority of people here so far seemed like they have very little knowledge other than what they have heard around let me fill you in. The major weakness's of a netbook are: 1. Screen Size. Most will be in the 10 inch range. 2. Keyboard Size. Some have full size keyboards but most do not. This isn't good if you have big hands. 3. Processor Speed. Most come with an Intel Atom processor which is rather slow in some cases but for your case should be just fine. 4. Less Ram. Most come with 1 GB of RAM I would get one with 2 GB if I were you as it will help with multitasking. 5.No CD or DVD. Most models don't have one but really lets be honest how much do most people really use one anymore? If you really need one simply buy an external one. Those are the main disadvantages most of which in your case would not hinder you very much. Most of the problems have some sort of remedy anyway. IM or email me if you need more help on you decision.

Answer 4
If you are interested in simply surfing the web, storing music and photos, then you should buy a netbook. You sound like the perfect candidate for someone who is looking for this type of computer. The netbook market has been built around the fact that many people wanted something that was smaller and easier to carry around, yet performed many of their normal day to day functions. If you are interested in a simple, light weight, long battery life computer that's very mobile, inexpensive and can be used for basic tasks, then the netbook is the choice for you. The current limitations of netbooks are mainly related to memory, (some use solid state memory vs. larger hard drives), operating system (until recently, most netbooks ran XP or a flavor of linux), and form factor issues such as screen size and keyboard size. If you can hold off on your purchase of a netbook, there's a new breed that's going to be hitting the shelves soon that comes with an amped up version of the Intel Atom processor and full HD playback capability on a slightly larger screen and slightly larger keyboard than the average netbook. Since the arrival of netbooks we've seen the screens, keyboards and technology evolve quite rapidly. From tiny 7" LCD displays, low resolutions, miniscule keyboards, pathetic battery life, garbage CPUs and horrible OS's like Windows CE, to amazing little machines running incredibly fast hardware for the power consumption at an extremely low price point.

Answer 5
I'd recommend using WIndows PC Scout to help with your decision as it is really depends on what you plan to use the laptop or netbook for. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scout/ and click the orange 'Let's get started' button. Cheers, Feran Windows Canada Outreach

Two types of netbook: - 1. Netbook running Window XP or Linux:- 7 inch, 8.9 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch, 13.3 inch Screen, without CD/DVD Driver. About 1.2 - 2 kg, Intel N270 or N280 CPU, 1G ram, 160GB harddisk, WIFI, Webcam, USBx2(or x3), SD Card slot. CAN DO: go on net, email, MP3 music, most movie, yahoo, facebook, MS office, MSN etc. Most things you do on your PC, Netbook can do. CAN NOT do: HD movies, High level 3D game, huge applications(like 3D desgin application etc). Heating: Less power, a little heat on board, different model and different factory come with different quality. :) Battery life: 1 - 2 hours, real time, up to how you use it. CPU N270 is a light power CPU, not so powerful, can only handle basic job like go on net etc. Integrade grahpic card can NOT handle hard 3D job, but can play CS etc old game. :) 1GB ram, 160GB harddisk can meet most of your requirment. This is good choise for school and office and home. It could handle most of your jobs. And, it's cheap for your first laptop. $299 only!!!! http://www.dandebiz.com/Buy-Cheap-netbook-Online_c135 2. Netbook running WinCE:- 7 inch Screen. 0.7kg. Without CD Driver nor DVD Driver. 200M or 400M CPU, 2GB Harddisk, 128m ram, WIFI support, SD Card slot, USBx1 (or x2). CAN DO: webpage, email, yahoo, facebook, msn, music, movie, photo, office app, pdf reader etc CAN NOT DO: WinCE application only, less software. In a word, it's a real "netbook", really desgin for net only. maybe you could use it as a reader. Heating: Less power, less heating. :) Battery life: 1 - 2 hours, real time, up to how you use it. Good choise for kids or take it as a reader or a MID . 7 inch design, 0.7kg, you could take it to everywhere, WIFI support, you could chat, check email, write your blog everywhere, simple game, music, moive only. But, isnt that all we need in most of our time? However, this model is 7 inch with small keyboard, consider if you figners fit it or not before buying it. $149 only http://www.dandebiz.com/mini-netbook-7-inch-black-wifi-wince_p233.html

Sounds like you may have lost the key and would need one to re-install Windows XP. If that's the case there are plenty of free utility programs you can use to view the current key so you can back them up. Check links below. As always here's my recommendations for you after your install: These programs are free as well. 1) Use CCleaner to do a FULL cleanup. 2) Immunize and scan the system with Spybot Search & Destroy. 3) Update Windows with all the latest Windows updates. 4) Use the latest release of FireFox as my default browser. 5) I'd use Symantec EndPoint Protection 11 as my Firewall/Anti-virus/Anti-spyware protection. It also does not require an annual subscription like the other iterations from Symantec / Norton and McAffee and others. 6) Consider turning off your page file if you have 1+ gigabytes with XP or 2+ gigabytes with Vista or Windows 7

Um... one is a notebook/laptop and the other is a desktop computer. The Alienware line has made both classes very similar in features for gaming so it's really a matter of portability as in Does the person want to carry their notebook or not? If not, then a desktop option is available! Gamers tend not to use "general" computers or laptops for the public but one made Specifically for gaming which requires high-end computer parts which jacks up the price of the computer! So... Do you want to carry your notebook or not? Remember that it's easier to upgrade a desktop so you can keep it longer for several more years than it is to upgrade a notebook!

If you're a college student, you can get a ten percent discount and a free iPod touch if you buy before the start of september as well!
